My future plans for BoB.NET include the following goals: * Adding additional databases. The first one will probably be MySql. Oracle is a possibility, but the main problem there is that it’s so hard for a non-DBA to setup and administer that I may decide that it’s more trouble than it’s worth. I have no plans for Access at this time, but could be persuaded. I doubt if I’ll ever attempt DB2. * Additional functionality to the business layer in an attempt to increase the percentage of times that BoB.NET can generate the complete Business layer. A lot of this will depend on feedback I receive, as to what’s most important to most developers. * Internationalizing BoB.NET if a demand is present. To accomplish this, I would need the aid of some bi-lingual developers who would be willing to provide translations of the screen elements and documents. * Adding more functionality to control additional and more complicated presentation controls, such as the TreeView, ListView, and Grid controls. * Finally, the Holy Grail. I am determined to attack the Presentation layer next, and eventually turn BoB.NET into a complete program generator for the types of applications that I’m targeting. This has been tried many times before, almost always unsuccessfully, but I’m going to give it a shot anyway. Even if I don’t get all the way, I should be able to provide at least some automation for those repetitive Presentation layer tasks. * ??? Something I didn’t even think of that some astute developer is going to ask for. Coding is simple – getting the ideas is hard. I will gladly consider any suggestions for BoB.NET, no matter how outlandish they may seem. And I promise I’ll never call you names (at least aloud). |
